Peter Connelly (also known as 'Baby P' and 'Baby Peter'), a 17-month-old child, died in London after suffering more than fifty injuries over an eight-month period, during which time he was repeatedly seen by the London Borough of Haringey Children's services and health visitors employed by the National Health Service (NHS). A Serious Case Review followed in 2009, as did a review of child protection led by Lord Laming, The Protection of Children in England. This called, amongst 57 other recommendations, for more specialist child protection training for social workers.
