Following the Local Authority and Social Services Act (1970) which implemented the Seebohm Committee recommendations, social services across England and Wales were re-organised - SSDs took on a range of responsibilities under the 1969 Children and Young Persons Act and the 1970 Chronically Sick and Disabled Person Act in England and Wales.
