In 2012, the General Social Care Council was abolished and replaced over by the Health Professions Council, which was renamed the Health and Care Professions Council to reflect its expanded role. The HCPC has respeonisbility for reguating the following professions: arts therapists, biomedical scientists, chiropodists / podiatrists, clinical scientists, dietitians, hearing aid dispensers, occupational therapists, operating department practitioners, orthoptists, paramedics, physiotherapists, practitioner psychologists, prosthetists/orthotists, radiographers, social workers in England and speech and language therapists. It also regulates qualfying social work education in England, but not post-qualifying social work training.
