On 30 September 2001, the CCETSW was abolished and its regulatory functions were taken over on 1st October by 4 new bodies: the General Social Care Council (GSCC) in England, the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) in Scotland, the Care Council for Wales (CCW), and the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC).

Since then, the GSCC has been replaced in England by the Health and Care Professions Council; the other three councils remain.
