Ken Loach’s film Cathy Come Home was screened on the BBC this year, watched by 12 million people - a quarter of the British population at the time. It tells the story of Cathy and Reg, a couple with three young children, whose lives spiral into poverty and homelessness. It influenced the establishment of the homelessness charity, Shelter.
