On 16th March 2008, Brandon Lee Muir, aged 23 months, was attacked and killed by Robert Cunningham, the boyfriend of his mother, Heather Boyd, in Dundee. Dundee's then-head of social work, Alan Baird, was quoted in the press as saying: "All the agencies involved accept joint responsibility for issues identified. There have been gaps in our services and that is why all the agencies are giving a total commitment to making substantial improvements." A significant case review followed Brandon's death.
