Formerly a lecturer in Applied Social Studies at North London Polytechnic, Jean took up the post of lecturer in medical social work at Edinburgh in the 1950s. She published book reviews and ‘notes’ on hospital social work in a US journal. She left to become Director of Studies at the Institute for Almoners in 1958; Vivienne Triseliotis got her job at the university.
