The two almoners’ associations: the Hospital Almoners Association and the Institute of Hospital Almoners merged to become the Institute of Medical Social Workers (IMSW), later becoming part of the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) in 1970; meanwhile its training functions were taken over by CCETSW in 1971.
